FILE REVIEW AND RESEARCH <br /> Most of the information reviewed was submitted <br /> Gillies Trucking Co. to RAI by <br /> The information reviewed is primarily <br /> devoted to describing the excavated area after tank removal, the <br /> chemical tests <br /> locations of soil samples, and results of hi <br /> performed. Miscellaneous site plans and summary tables were <br /> included in this file information as well as correspondence from <br /> the County to Gillies Trucking Co. <br /> Additional information was gathered from the Local water <br /> agency, the San Joaquin County Flood Control District, San <br /> Joaquin Co. Public Health Services and other regulatory <br /> information from the Regional Board and the Dept. of Health <br /> services in Sacramento. <br /> A limited traverse of the site area revealed the general <br /> location of the wells in the site area. <br /> Detailed discussions with Mr. Ken and Jim Gillies regarding <br /> the site area, site construction and the tank system has added <br /> many pertinent facts to this report. <br /> IV- EUVIRONMENTAL SETTING <br /> The site area is part of the fiat-lying floor of the <br /> N Central Valley of California and is underlain by several <br /> thousands of feet of sediments derived from adjacent mountains. <br /> The Calaveras lover is the closest surface water body about 3/4 <br /> miles northwest of the site. The elevation of the site is about <br /> - 25 to 30 felt above sea level according to U.S.G.S topographic <br /> maps. The general slope of the ground surface in the <br /> towards the west to southwest. area is <br /> Soils observed in the stockpiles at the site are generally <br /> tan to brown silts and sands in varying mixtures. Based on an <br /> examination of the stockpiled soils, some hardpan is believed to <br /> exist in the subsurface. The upper few feet of soils are gray <br /> to black topsoil and are believed to contain a significant <br /> percentage of clay. All of the soils encountered appear to have <br /> a very low moisture content. <br /> Groundwater was reportedly not encountered in the - - <br /> excavation to a depth of approximately 35 feet. <br /> 3 <br />
