1
I . INTRODUCTION
The system designed to remediate the soil and groundwater at Exxon Retail Site(RS)7-3942
consists of a vapor extraction and treatment system(VETS) and a groundwater extraction and
' treatment system (GETS). The VETS and the GETS have been designed to operate
simultaneously or independently, although operation of either system requires the operation
of the catalytic oxidizer for hydrocarbon abatement. The mechanical and electrical portion of
the VETS system will be purchased from a catalytic oxidizer vendor The operation and
maintenance manual, thus far, contains information on the operation and maintenance of the
GETS only.
2 . OPERATOR STAFFING AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The groundwater extraction and treatment system (GETS) will be monitored by an
experienced Environmental Engineer, Chemist, or Scientist with a minimum of one year of
experience The GETS will be operated and maintained by a Technician trained specifically
on the operation of this system and experienced in the operation and maintenance of similar
' systems. Monitoring, operation, and maintenance of the GETS will be supervised by a
Project level Engineer and Hydrogeologist
3 . MONITORING, INSPECTION, AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
The GETS will be visited on a weekly basis according to the following schedule
System monitoring .. once every 2 weeks
System inspections and maintenance . ...once every 2 weeks
Project Engineer inspection. .. . ... once every 2 months
The system monitoring and system inspection and maintenance will occur on staggered
weeks.
Monitoring of the GETS will be performed once every two weeks The parameters to be
monitored for the groundwater extraction and treatment system are listed below-
a) Volume of groundwater pumped from each well and total volume processed by
the treatment system
b) Depth to water and depth to top of pump for each extraction well
c) Flow rate of air and water through air stripper
1
m7W3942wnw--r X
