The frequencies may be changed as expenence is gained by operating this particular
system.
The maintenance schedule of the different components of the GETS is shown in Table 3.
4 . SEQUENCE OF OPERATION FOR THE GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION
AND TREATMENT SYSTEM (GETS)
Groundwater containing dissolved hydrocarbons is extracted from five wells using
submersible pumps Each well is fitted with a valve to regulate water flow rate, a check
' valve to restrict water from flowing back into the well, a flow totalizer to monitor the volume
of water extracted, and a sampling valve to collect water samples from each well. Water is
transported from the extraction wells, via a secondarily contained 2-inch collection manifold,
through an ultraviolet sterilizer to an oil-water separator. A flow switch, located prior to the
ultraviolet stenlizer, will monitor the flow of water entering the treatment system. If no flow
' is detected for a period of one hour, the GETS is shut down
The ultraviolet sterilizer will kill the bacteria contained in the groundwater that would
otherwise accumulate throughout the system The oil-water separator will remove any liquid-
phase petroleum hydrocarbons and transfer them to a temporary product storage tank. The
temporary product storage tank will have a high level switch installed to completely shut
2
m70,73%2
