Mr. Eric I Holm
March 26, 1997
Page 6
(b) The areas up and downgradient(south) of these two buildings.
(9) Building No. 10. Hydraulic splicing presses were historically operated in
this building prior to the building's conversion to a storage facility. It was
owned and operated as a fruit packing company until it was purchased by
Holz.
Elevated levels of TCE were detected in the area adjacent to the building,
therefore, soil gas samples at 10 and/or 20 feet bgs should be collected at
locations downgradient(south and west) and beneath the building.
Additional soil gas samples at 30 feet bgs may be collected based on
results of the shallow soil gas samples to determine the extent of the
contamination. Representative soil samples should be collected to
determine if soils are contaminated with metals and TPH.
(10) Buildings No. 11, 12, 13, and 14. Building No. 11 contains the main
administrative offices, Building No. 12 contains the engineering offices
including a machine shop. Buildings No. 13 and 14 consist of the slide lag
department.
(a) To determine if soil is contaminated with VOCs, semi-VOCs,
metals, and TPH, soil and soil gas samples at 10 feet bgs should be
taken in areas beneath and downgradient(south) of the machine
shop located in Buildings No. 12 and 13; and
(b) Additional soil gas samples at 10 and/or 20 feet bgs should be
collected in the area up and downgradient of Buildings No. 11, 12,
and 13 to delineate the extent of VOCs contaminations which may
have been migrated from upgradient locations.
(11) Building No. 16. This building stores empty drums, hazardous materials
including solvents such as PCE, MEK. Delta proposed 3 soil gas
sampling locations in areas around the building. Methylene chloride and
toluene were detected in the soil samples collected by BEM.
One of the three proposed sampling location should be moved to inside of
the building for collection of both soil and soil gas samples.
