Decontamination will consist of steam cleaning the downhole drilling equipment and the
temporary PVC well materials between borehole drilling. Groundwater samples will be collected with new,
dedicated, disposable bailers.
INVESTIGATION-DRIVEN WASTE HANDLING
Soil cuttings will be placed in roll-off bins and left on site until the laboratory analytical results are received. Any
soil that demonstrates visual contamination or evidence of contamination based on standard field screening
techniques will be separated from clean cuttings. Laboratory analytical results will be used to characterize the
cuttings and they will be subsequently disposed of in an applicable manner.
Protective clothing, if any, and latex gloves used during investigation will be placed in plastic trash bags, and
disposed as common refuse. Decontamination fluids will be containerized and retained on site until laboratory
anFilyueu. results of soil sampling are received. if no contamination is identified in the soil samples, the
decontamination fluids will be discharged to the city of Lodi sanitary sewer system. If contamination is identified,
the decontamination fluids will be characterized and disposed appropriately.
BOREHOLE ABANDONMENT
Boreholes will be abandoned according to procedures outlined in San Joaquin County ordinances. Bentonite or
cement grout will be placed using tremie method of grouting to within six inches of the surface. Concrete cement
or asphalt will be placed from a depth of six inches to the surface at each soil boring location to restore the site.
September 1996 2
g:lac&c-h&c113591 corresp120173cd.doc
