Supplemental Investigation Report,Problem Assessment Report and Work Plan
Cleanu and Abatement Order Na 5-00-707 EAI Proect No 1232
6.4 Final Selection of Remedial Alternative(s)
The final selection of a remedial alternative(s) will depend on the results obtained from
completing the additional investigation work outlined in Section 5 0 However, at this time,
data are sufficient to recognize that remediation of ground water beneath the Unocal site
(southern area) near existing Unocal wells MW-1 1, MW-12 and MW-19 will be required (see
Figure 4) Further, the results of the additional assessment work to be completed at the Unocal
site will determine if remediation in the area between former Unocal well MW-1 and existing
' Unocal well MW-11 (center area) also will be required
The area near the R1W also may require remediation, depending upon the results obtained from
completing the CPT work (see Section 5 2), and remediation of the Wards site will continue
using the existing remedial system (see Section 2 2 3)
1
6.5 Interim Remediation — Unocal Site
As an interim remedial measure, it is recommended that existing Unocal wells MW-11,
MW-12 and MW-19D (see Figure 4) be connected to the Wards treatment system Wells MW-11
and MW-12 will be used as vapor extraction wells and well MW-19D as an air sparging well
The main problem, which we have already preliminarily discussed with the City of Stockton, is
t the City's concern regarding installing conveyance piping beneath Robinhood Drive
However, it is EAI's opinion that this issue can be resolved and a permit issued by the City for
the installation of conveyance piping beneath Robinhood Drive As an alternative, and
assuming that remediation in the center area of the Unocal site will not be required,
biosparging, which requires only the use of an air compressor, can be implemented
I It should be noted that if remediation is determined to be warranted in the center area of the
Unocal site, it is doubtful that the Wards system could be used A separate system, located on
l
the Unocal site, probably would be required
I
i
i
1
BS I232P[RW-WP -22-
ENWRONMENTAL AUD,1T,INC
