Laboratory facility
The facility would have an analytical laboratory on site, primarily
to perform analysis of agricultural biomass, production briquettes,
incoming used oils, recycled oils, and intermediate production materials.
The laboratory would have the capability of providing sufficient details
of chemical and physical properties to assure that no off-specification
materials are accepted or delivered.
The laboratory would be staffed with certified technicians and
chemists to perform analysis using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ,
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), National Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) , and other approved standard test
methods. The laboratory is expected to be equipped with the following
equipment to analyze certain properties:
• Emission spectrograph,
• Atomic spectrograph,
• Gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry, and infrared apparatus,
• Orsat, furite technique-pH meter and automatic titrator,
• Optical Microscope
• Muffle furnace, oven, balances
• Calorimeter,
• Open cup flash point tester,
• Specific gravity balance,
• Viscosimeter,
• Imhoff cones and centrifuge with graduated tubes, and
• Sieving machine and HIAC particle counter.
If the equipment for a specific analytical method is not available
in house, the sample would be sent to a commercial analytical laboratory.
The perimeter of this building would also be protected by fire
hydrants equipped with hoses and nozzles.
" 2-19
101-46.R4 4/7/89
