i
PUBLIC SERVICES AND UTILITIES
Environmental Setting
Water Service
Historic and current use of water on the project site has been for
agricultural purposes only. Water used for crop irrigation has been
extracted from the groundwater basin approximately 120 feet below the
surface by an on-site well . Local wells have been drilled at depths of
500 - 600 feet with flows up to 2,000 gallons per minute (gpm) .
Agricultural lands in the project area which use on-site wells for
irrigation are within the jurisdiction of the San Joaquin Local Health
District. The average water requirement for the type of crops grown in
the area is approximately three acre-feet of water per acre of crop per
year. The historic crop water use associated with the 19.8-acre project
facility site is approximately 59.4 acre-feet (19.4 million gallons) per
year.
The potential for groundwater overdraft in the project vicinity has
been of concern to the County (Vaughn 1988) .
Sewer Service
Currently there is no sewer service provided to the project site
and vicinity. The use of septic systems is common in the project area.
Fire Protection
The project site is within the Collegeville Rural Fire District.
The District consists of one fire station located at Jack Tone and
Mariposa Roads, approximately two miles from the project site. The fire
station is staffed with approximately nine volunteer fire fighters on an
on-call basis. Emergency response time to the facility site is between
two and three minutes based on initial contact received from the San
Joaquin County Communication Center which then alerts the volunteer fire
fighters over their remote paging devices of an emergency (Thienes
1988) .
3-13
104-6.R3 4/10/89
