TABLE 3.6
INCREASE IN EXISTING VOLUMES DUE TO PROJECT TRAFFIC
Increase in Existing
2-way PM Peak Hour Volumes
Roadway Due to Project Traffic
Mariposa Road (west of Austin) + 4% (from 435 to 454 VPH(a))
Mariposa Road (east of Austin) + 2% (from 495 to 505 VPH)
Arch Road (west of Austin) +17% (from 58 to 68 VPH)
Austin Road (south of Arch) + 4% (from 84 to 87 VPH)
Austin Road (Arch to Mariposa) +24% (from 120 to 149 VPH)
(a) VPH = Vehicles per hour
on some roads, this is due to their existing low volumes. Project
traffic increases would, in general , be low and could be accommodated
well within the available capacities of all nearby roads.
Table 3.2 shows that project traffic would not produce any
measurable change in level of service at either the Mariposa/Austin or
Austin/Arch intersections. All turn movements would remain at PM peak
hour LOS A operation with the exception of the northbound Austin Road
left turn to Mariposa Road, which would remain LOS B. Neither
intersection would come close to meeting peak hour signal warrant
criteria levels with the addition of project traffic.
While analysis indicates that project traffic could well be
accommodated within available roadway and intersection capacities, the
significant number of project trucks would produce safety concerns at the
project access and the Mariposa/Austin intersection due to the high
prevailing speeds of ambient traffic and the extended times required for
project trucks to accelerate from stopped conditions or to decelerate for
3-32
101-32.R3 4/10/89
