KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES <br /> VIM <br /> 2 INTRODUCTION <br /> 2.1 BACKGROUND <br /> Unocal Corporation operated a retail gas:iline service facility at the <br /> northeast corner of Pacific Avenue ane, Robinhood Drive., 5606 Ppcific f <br /> Avenue, City of Stockton, San Joaquin 'county, Calirornia (refer to Figure <br /> 1). The property is approximately 0.4 acres in area (refer to Figure 2), <br /> Land use in the immediate vicinity of the project property is urban/ <br /> i <br /> + : commercial, within 1/2 mile, land use changes to single unit residential <br /> and agricultural. The facility was closed in mid-1985. Two 10,000 <br /> gallon, underground, unleaded gasoline storage tanks; associated <br /> underground piping; and one underground waste oil tank were removed, <br /> during its closure (refer to Figure 3). The property is currently vacant. <br /> r A property title search has been conducted. A list of owners since the <br /> initial 1955 property subdivision is included within Appendix F. Leasing <br /> personnel from the current owners, Stone Brothers, have verbally indicated <br /> that the property has been occupied by the Unocal Corporation and operated <br /> as a gasoline-automotive service station exclusively s .nce 1955 or 1956. <br /> Soil samples collected at the time of closure revealed the presence of <br /> gasoline, related constituents and 1,2 dichloroethane from approximately <br /> 20 feet below the land surface to the capillary fringe. <br /> This interim site characterization report will be used as technical <br /> t support for the design and implementation of a soil and ground water <br /> remediation program for the project property. <br /> s <br /> 2.2 SUMMARY OF PREVIOUS WORK <br /> Several series of soil borings and monitoring wells have been completed at <br /> the site (refer to Figure 2).
