I. H. KLEINFELDER &ASSOCIATE'S
monitoring wells was phased to provide forappropriate da
to evaluation
stages• This interim site characterization report relies on existing and
recently
RW-.l. collected subsurface information including MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, and
Characterization of the property began in mid-August 1985, with the
completion of an initial soil boring (refer to Figure
ory
analysis of the soil samples collected from this soil boring.detected tthe
presence of hydrocarbon compounds (refer to Table 2, Appendix A, and
Appendix E). On 27 September 1985, two additional borings were drilled to
a depth of 60 feet and converted to monitoring wells identified as MW-1
and MW-2 (refer to Figure 2). Samples submitted for laboratory analysis
i- contained hydrocarbon compounds
in both ground water and soils from
t,. locations MW-1 and MW-2
(refer to Tables > and 3, Appendix A, and Appendix
After evaluation of these initial findings, a third monitoring well
identified as MW--3, was installed for the purposes of assessing the
H direction of ground water flow, monitoring the distribution of hydrocarbon
compound cont-mination, and to further information of the site geology.
Additional soil samples from three soil borings, identified as 2-1; B-2,
} and 2-3, were also collected to assess the extent of soil contamination
i
(refer to Figure 2, Tables 2 and 3, Appendix A, and Appendix E),
Installation of MW--3 and completion of B-1, B-2, and B-3 occurred on 1
c
April 1986, and 2 April 1986.
Two borings, identified asB-4 and B-5, were completed in early March
1987. These soil borings were located in the extreme southwest corner of
the property and were used to determine if the near surface soils were
clean enough to erect a large sign, as required by the County of San
i Joaquin. Laboratory results (refer to Appendix D) indicated hydrocarbon
compounds concentrations within soils at these two locations (southwest'
corner of the property) to be below the limits of detection. Lithology
logs were not obtained for locations B-4 and B-5. The locations were not
surveyed and are not shown on the monitoring well and boring location map
(Figure 2). These borings were completed to idepths above the u' F?ermost
water-bearing unit with hollow stem auger and tremie grouted.
53-87--443 4
