DEC 00 '97 12:05 AT&T FAX 9020FX P.2/3
December 2, 1997
Project 22560-203.002
Mr. Dan Lapporte
Chevron Pipe Line Company
4000 Executive Parkway
Bishop Ranch No. 8
San Ramon, California 94583
Re: Work Plan for Destruction of Groundwater Monitoring Wells at 425 Mr. Diablo
Avenue, Tracy
Dear Mr. Lapporte:
EMCON is pleased to present this work plan for the destruction of the three groundwater
monitoring wells at 415 Mt. Diablo Avenue, Tracy. The scope of work was developed
based on San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) regulations and
EMCON's knowledge of similar projects.
SCOPE OF WORK
Task 1 - Prefield Activities
Before field activities begin, EMCON will arrange for the necessary field materials and
equipment. EMCON will contact Underground Services Alert at least 48 hours before
commencing field activities. Appropriate permits will be obtained from the SJCPHS
before initiating any field work.
Task 2 - Field Activities
Destruction of the groundwater monitoring wells will be performed by a licensed C-57
well driller, with proof of such license and valid workman's compensation insurance on
file with the SJCPHS. The well will be sounded immediately before it is destroyed to
determine whether there are obstructions that will interfere with filling and scaling.
Because the well casing will be left in place during sealing operations, a hole at least one
foot larger in diameter than the originally drilled hole shall be excavated around the
outside of the well casing to a depth of 3 feet below the ground surface, and the well
casing shall be cut off 6 inches above the bottom of this excavation and removed.
