SHE.l
' Mt.Diablo and Buena Vista
c apinbros. Telephone HO 6-5531-2
Stockton, California
* L U B R I C A T I O N * T U N E U P * B R A K E R E P A I R
advised both verbally and later in a letter (addressed to the Shell Oil Co.) that as
of that date they would be held responsible for any loss and demanded full
restitution. After several days of monitoring Shell Oil agreed with us that a leak
in a tank was indeed occurring.
Since Shell Oil owned the tanks it was their responsibility to effect replacement.
Under their direction a contractor was hired to remove the leaking tank and
replace it. We believe the local contractor was a Mr. Jack Benton of Stockton
Service Station Equipment Co.
Because it was many years ago we find it difficult to recall the principals or
details; however, upon removal of the tank a number of large holes in the wall of
the tank were found. These holes were caused by rocks laying against the outer
wall of the tank which induced electrolysis. In addition, the bottom of the hole
from which the tank was removed was filled with gasoline. We recall that a
worker was hired to clean up the remaining fuel, but after wading around in this
fuel at the bottom of the hole he decided that it was too dangerous to work under
those conditions.
In conclusion, we recall that upon completion of the tank removal the Shell Oil Co.
accepted our figures regarding loss of fuel and compensated us with a replacement
of all fuel lost during the entire time frame of the leak.
2
