<br />Published by Articulate® Storyline 31 4/27/18 <br />3.3 Pharmacy Waste <br /> <br />Notes: <br />Examples of Pharmacy Hazardous waste include but are not limited to: <br />• Coumadin and Warfarin and some items that come in contact with Coumadin and Warfarin such as empty bottles and lids, <br />pills, desiccants, and foil seals. <br />• All outdated/expired/damaged Nicotine, smoking cessation, products. <br />• Any medication/product containing alcohol greater than or equal to 25%: oral liquids, injectables, gels, etc. <br />• Empty inactivated vaccine single dose vials. <br />• Empty multi-dose inactivated vaccine vials, due to the preservative. <br />• Note: Empty LIVE vaccine vials must be discarded in the Sharps container. <br />• Damaged or loose tablets or capsules that fall on the floor, broken tablets, etc. <br />• Tablets or capsules that are dropped by the ScriptPro unit can still be dispensed if the pharmacist determines it is safe <br />to do so. <br />• Do NOT mix wastes, only one NDC per bag. <br />• Return to Stock (RTS) product that is not in the original packaging, expired prescription vials, OTC, etc. <br />• Non-empty Return to Stock bottles <br />• Pills must be removed from amber vials and placed in pill bags <br />All Personal Information, PHI, must be obliterated from containers. <br />Controlled substances are EXEMPT from the Hazardous Waste Program and must be returned following normal D&O <br />procedures, this includes any Pseudoephedrine, PSE, OTC items. <br /> <br /> <br />
