In underground fuel
fiberglass pipe
you something
and
•
systems, Dualoy 3000/L
fittings give
no other product has
(including steel).
Dualoy 3000/L from Ameron is the
best UL -listed piping available for
underground fuel system
construction and rehabilitation.
Manufactured from chemically inert
materials, Dualoy 3000/L fiberglass
pipe and fittings resist external
corrosion far better than cathodically
protected steel.
The Dualoy 3000/L liner delivers
features and performance no other
UL -listed piping system can offer.
Resilient and holiday -free, the flexible
inner liner is an added layer of
protection inside the structural pipe
wall. Competitive fiberglass pipe has
no liner.
Galvanized steel pipe can descale
when exposed to modern no -lead
fuels. The inert Dualoy 3000/L liner
remains intact throughout the service
life of the system, protecting
downstream strainers and pumps
while maintaining product purity.
Lightweight and easy to handle,
Dualoy 3000/L with its simple,
Thousands of steel service station fuel -
handling systems throughout the
United States have reached the end
of their service lifetimes. An API survey
has shown that unprotected steel tanks
and piping account for 94 percent of all
leaks, and nearly one-third of these
leaks can be traced to the piping itself.
Federal laws passed in 1984 and 1988
permit only two piping materials for
service station rehabilitation and new
construction: cathodically protected
steel or fiberglass.
Dualoy 3000/L provides secondary containment piping in a tank complex designed to store a
vanety of jet fuels. Seen here is the inner carrierpiping during initial layout.
threadless adhesive joint can be
installed in less than half the time
needed for steel. The result is
lower initial installed cost and a
maintenance -free corrosion resistant
piping system with a service life
much longer than steel.
Inert to external corrosion
Dualoy 3000/L piping is electrically
nonconductive and never requires
cathodic protection. Installed
systems are immune to external
corrosion from stray -current
electrolysis and cathodic inter-
ference. They are unaffected by
alkaline or acidic soil conditions.
Installation, inspection and
maintenance of costly impressed -
current systems and sacrificial
anodes are permanently eliminated.
Excellent flow
characteristics
The superior flow characteristics
of fiberglass pipe are now more
important than ever because of the
high pressure drop through today's
multiple product dispensers.
Because of its smooth inner liner,
Dualoy 3000/L maintains a high
Hazen -Williams coefficient of 150
throughout its service life for
consistently low pressure drop.
• •
• •
u
Easy to transport and handle
The light weight of fiberglass makes
Dualoy 3000/L easier to transport
and handle than steel. A typical
service station requires from 800 to
1000 feet of piping. For 2 -inch steel
pipe, that's about 13/4 tons — a hefty
truckload. The same footage of
Dualoy 3000/L weighs less than
500 pounds and can easily be carried
on a light pick-up. One person can
unload enough Dualoy 3000/L for a
whole service station job quickly, by
hand, without a forklift.
Rapid end preparation
Pipe end preparation is a large part of
overall job cost. Dualoy 3000/L pipe
arrives at the job -site with the ends
factory tapered. Fiberglass pipe and
nipples can be cut to length much
more quickly than steel, and the cut
ends tapered in a fraction of the time
needed to thread steel pipe. For
example, a 2 -inch end can be
prepared in less than 20 seconds
using a portable tapering tool for
on-site joint preparation.
Most steel pipe failures start at
threaded joints: threading the pipe
peels off the protective coating and
exposes the bare metal. By contrast,
the Dualoy 3000/L pipe wall is
constructed of inert materials
throughout, so tapering the pipe
end does not compromise its
corrosion resistance.
Simple threadless joining
Dualoy 3000/L employs a deep -
socket bell and spigot adhesive joint
for faster joining than threaded steel
pipe. Matching tapers in bell and
spigot make a firm interference fit to
hold the joint together while the
adhesive cures. Ameron's standard
UL -listed adhesive cures at normal
temperatures without heating
blankets or outside heat sources.
For cold weather installations, the
necessary accessories are readily
available from Ameron.
•
Unlike competitive fiberglass and
steel piping, Dualoy 3000/L has no
threads to cross or strip. A slight twist
as the spigot is inserted into the bell
and the joint is complete. The joint
can usually be made by a single
worker. Compare this to the effort
needed to screw steel pipe together,
where it frequently takes two workers
to join even 2 -inch pipe — to say
nothing of larger sizes. An important
point, since 1 out of 7 steel pipe
joint failures can be attributed to
loose fittings.
A worker easily carnes 100 feet of 2 -inch Dualoy 3000/L pipe during a service station rehabili-
tation. The same length of equivalent steel pipe would weigh over 350 pounds.
Dualoy 3000/L pipe is so easy to work with that it can be cut to length using an ordinary hacksaw.
The cut end of the pipe is then tapered with a portable tapering machine. Both cutting and
tapering can be accomplished without even getting out of the trench.
The quick adhesive joint is one reason a two-
man crew can put in more Dualoy 3000/L in
3 days than a three-man steel crew in 4 days.
Full range of UL -listed sizes
Dualoy 3000/L is the only line of
fiberglass pipe, fittings and adapters
available in a full two- through 6 -inch
size range with Underwriters'
Laboratories listing. Ameron thus
offers UL -listed components not only
for typical small -diameter service
station installations, but also for large -
volume facilities such as bulk fuel
terminals, marinas and central
fuel oil systems.
Secondary containment
systems
Ameron Dualoy 3000/L secondary
containment systems use rigid,
heavy -wall outer fittings with the next
larger size pipe to enclose the carrier
pipe totally from turbine to dispenser.
These systems provide a continuous
L
annular space between secondary
and primary which makes it possible
to test the integrity of the containment
and to monitor the product lines at
any time.
All pipe and fittings in an Ameron
containment system are manufac-
tured from the same fiberglass
reinforced resins as the primary, so
the containment piping has the same
excellent chemical resistance as the
product lines.
Dualoy 3000/L containment systems
are easy to install. The pipe is so
smooth on the outside that the
contractor need only remove the
surface gloss at the ends of the pipe
before installing the containment
fittings: no special end preparation is
required. Only Ameron can offer such
simple installation.
Complete inspectability
Ameron Inspection Containment
piping employs pipe of two slightly
different diameters in the secondary
Adjacent lengths of Inspection Containment
pipe may be nested together to provide easy
access to primary pipe and fittings.
so that adjacent sections can be
nested together, thus providing
complete access to the primary line
during bonding, testing and
inspection. No other containment
system is easier to install.
After the primary has passed inspection,
sections of Inspection Containment piping
are joined with reducing couplings.
UL -listed alcohol piping
systems
Ameron was the first in the fiberglass
pipe industry to obtain UL listing for
alcohol service in underground piping
systems. Standard Dualoy 3000/L is
compatible with allowable limits of
alcohols (4.75% methanol; 10%
ethanol) and ethers (15% MTBE).
Ameron also offers a full range of
fittings and adhesives which can be
used with standard Dualoy 3000/L
pipe for systems carrying alcohol
blends and straight alcohols such as
M85 and M100.
Resistant to sunlight
In the final step of the unique
Dualoy 3000/L pipe manufacturing
process, a uniform resin -rich exterior
coating is added to protect the resin -
glass bond of the structural wall
from UV radiation. As a result,
Dualoy 3000/L can be stored out of
doors without special precautions
before installation.
