a. IDENTIFY <br />If material spills or is released, confirm the identity of the material and know il <br />potential hazards. Do not take any action if you are uncertain of the material'.1 <br />identity. <br />C. ELIMINATE SOURCES OF IGNITION <br />Some chemicals such as Pentane, Diesel Fuel & Isopropyl Mcohol have low <br />flash points; these materials are flammable and could be easily ignited. <br />Suffuric Acid - generates flammable hydrogen gas when it contacts <br />various metals. Whenever a spill occurs, all sources of ignition must be <br />-• electricity, heaters, forklifts, matches, and • <br />• SECURE THE AREA <br />Take measures to block • and • anyone from entering the spill area. This <br />will prevent <br />other workers from being exposed to the spill hazards and will prevent the <br />possible entrance of ignition sources to the area. <br />e. EVACUATE <br />All workers not involved in controlling the spill should be cleared from the area to <br />prevent potential exposure to the hazardous substance. <br />FOLLOW EVACUATIION PROCEDURES SET FORTH IN SECTION 6.0. <br />CONTAIN THE SPILL <br />Prevent the spill from running down slopes, off of loading docks, into storm <br />drains and other open sources. The contaminated surface area can be reduced <br />by using absorbents such as: oil -dry, pads or booms to stop the flow of spilled <br />material. Any area susceptible to spill runoff such as drains should be diked •.: <br />covered with an absorbent. <br />9.
