Soil boring
GP3 indicated the presence diesel at a concentration of 6.4 mg/Kg. All other analyzed constituents
were not reportable above laboratory detection limits.
Boring locations are shown in Figure 4. Soil boring analytical data are summarized in Table 6.
Field Notes are included as Attachment B-2 and the Laboratory Analytical Report is included as
Attachment C-3.
4.0 SOIL EXCAVATION ACTIVITIES
Information gathered from the EHD Site Investigation and the Soil Boring Investigation was used
to determine the horizontal and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil.
Scheduling the excavation was problematic due to a lengthy rain season. However, after a short
period of dry weather the excavation activities took place between February 18 and February 19,
2010.
4.1 Soil Profile
The analytical data collected during the Geoprobe® investigation was sent to Allied Waste
(Forward) Landfill for disposal profiling. The profile was accepted by Forward and arrangements
were made to prepare for soil excavation activities.
4.2 Permitting and Pre-Field Work Activities
The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD) was notified in writing prior to
excavation activities. A building inspection permit (# 2010-13) was obtained from the City of
Escalon Building Inspection Division prior to the excavation activities. The permit is included as
Attachment D-2. Mr. David Irey and EHD were notified at least 72 hours prior to conducting
drilling and excavation activities.
4.3 Soil Excavation
On February 18, 2010, Mr. Thorpe of Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc (Contractor License #495699)
excavated the upper ten feet of clean overburden and stockpiled the soil next to the excavation
area. After the clean overburden was stockpiled, Mr. Thorpe began to excavate the designated
impacted area and load the soil into waiting trucks. Once filled, the trucks began to haul the soil
to Forward for disposal.
