'ori-Valley Growers November 9, 1987
Project No. 1582G Page 5-5
. The subsurface conditions were explored to a total depth of 25.5 fcet at
MW-1 and MW-2 and 23.5 feet at MW-3. The sgbsurface soil in the area of
the boring consisted of clay, silt, clayey silt, clayey sand and sand. Cross
sections A-A' and B-B' show the general lithology (Figures 4 and 5) A silt
layer was encountered below the road surface at monitoring wells MWA, 2
and 3. This silt extends to approximately 7 to 8 feet at MW-1 and MW-3 but
-• only extends to approximately 3 to 4 feet at MW-2. Grain size is variable
within this interval, changing from silt to sandy silt and clayey silt. This
material was found to be damp, soft with no product odor observed,
From approximately 7 to 8 feet and extending to 18 feet the predominate soil
type is clay. This clay is interbedded with variable amounts of silt and sand.
Overall the contacts between these units are gradation but sometimes they
are sharp. The soil in the 8 to 18 feet interval was found to be moist, stiff
to very stiff and has no product odor. From approximately 18 feet to the
bottom of the borings grain size increases to a silty sand. This granular
material is wet, medium dense, and has no product odor.
Groundwater was first encountered at approximately 13 feet at MW-2 and
MW-3 and 17 feet at MW-1. The variation in water elevation may be due in
part to sealing off of the hole from rotation of the augers through the clay
zone during drilling. Groundwater surface elevations may also be affected by
—_ ---.. .....
__ _-regional._-regional-pumping-and_proximity to -the._site._..near.the.._Mokelumne Raver and the
San Joaquin Rivor Delta, Tidal effects from these systems may cause
variation in first encountered water.
