Beltline NE <br /> Grand Rapids MI 49525 <br /> Subject: Universal Forest Products Site Code/RO#: 1588 <br /> 26200 Nowell Rd Global ID#: T0607732095 <br /> Thornton, CA. 95686 <br /> The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed <br /> Work Plan — Supplementary Soil and Soil Vapor Investigation, dated September <br /> 5, 2008, as submitted by your consultant ICES and has the following comments. <br /> This work plan was required by the EHD in correspondence dated August 6, <br /> 2008 so that additional soil and soil vapor data could be collected for preparation <br /> of a no further action request report. <br /> A soil vapor intrusion sampling event is required to determine if the residual <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at this underground storage tank (UST) <br /> site poses an inhalation or exposure threat to the occupants/workers in the <br /> nearby building. The placement of the soil vapor borings noted on Figure 2 of <br /> the proposal only has one soil vapor boring near the building. The EHD requires <br /> that you relocate the soil vapor boring locations so that more points are located <br /> along the perimeter of the building closest to the former UST location. The soil <br /> vapor points noted on the map to the south and south west of the former UST pit <br /> are not required by the EHD and these points may be moved to the east and <br /> northeast of the former UST pit. <br /> The EHD had previously asked for information and documentation concerning <br /> the 687 tons of soil that was excavated and removed from the UST pit at the <br /> time of removal in June 2004. Based on the data you subsequently provided <br /> and a further evaluation of the documents and pictures from the UST removal, <br /> the EHD feels confident that no errors or omissions occurred and due to the <br /> infiltration of ground water and pit wall cave-ins, the amount of soil removed was <br /> justified.
