r
f
26 February 2001
AGE-NC Project No 95-0137
r
r2 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
After purging and allowing a minimum 80%recharge recovery of the initial water level in each well,
samples were collected using new, clean, disposable plastic bailers Each sample was transferred into
three 40-m1 EPA-approved volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials and into one 1-liter amber bottles
Samples were stored in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell
rAnalytical Laboi atories (MAI), a state-certified laboratory
Each sample was analyzed in accordance with the following
r • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTE&X)
and methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Oxygenating fuel additives tertiary butyl alcohol(TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPS), methyl-
butyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETBE) and tertiary amyl methyl
ether {TAME) in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified
' 3.0 FINDINGS
3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
rThe elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground water
from the surveyed well casing elevations (Table 1)
'
Depths to ground water ranged from 18 35 to 19 40 feet below the well casing tops The relative
ground water elevations at the site ranged from 79 42 feet to 80 20 feet There was an average
' decrease of the relative ground water elevation at the site of 0 29 feet over the last quarter
' The ground water flow ranges from northwest to northeast (Figure 3) Historically, ground water
flow direction at the site has varied from north to northwest The hydraulic gradient was calculated
to be 0 007 feet/feet
r
32 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in all samples, excluding sample MW-5,at concentrations ranging from 210 gg/l
in sample MW-4 to 76,000 µg/l in VW-1B TPH-d was detected in all samples at concentrations
rAdvanced GeoEnvironmentdl,Im
r
