20 January 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0173 <br /> Page 5 of 14 <br /> 23 REGIONAL GEOLOGICAL SETTING <br /> The site is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California, a large, elongate <br /> northwest tending, asymmetric structural trough The Great Valley Province has been filled with <br /> thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent, creating a nearly flat lying <br /> alluvial plain extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to the Klamath Mountains in the <br /> north The western and eastern boundaries of this province are comprised of the California Coast <br /> Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively Rocks composing the basement complex of the province <br /> have not been completely defined but are believed to be of metamorphic and igneous origin The r <br /> Great Valley Province has been subdivided into two mayor divisions identified as the Sacramento <br /> and San Joaquin Valleys <br /> The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the <br /> prmcipal sources of domestic ground water in the 13,500-square mile San Joaquin Valley Ground <br /> Water Basin (Basin 5-22) This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River <br /> 2 4 GROUND WATER DEPTH AND FLOW DIRECTION <br /> Based on review of the Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater Spring 1998 map published by the San <br /> Joaquin County Flood Control District and Water Conservation District(FCD&WCD),the estimated <br /> depth to ground water at the site is between 20 and 25 feet bsg Review of the map Lines of Equal <br /> Elevation of Groundwater Sprang 1998 (FCD&WCD) depicts the regional ground water flow <br /> direction towards the northwest and west However, review of recent ground water monitoring well <br /> data collected at the site suggests that localized ground water depth is closer to 15 feet bsg with <br /> ground water flow direction toward the northwest <br /> Review of previous ground water monitoring at the site and historical depth to ground water maps <br /> (FCD&WCD) dating back to 1971 suggests that ground water depth near the site has fluctuated <br /> between 20 and 30 feet bsg <br /> Between May 1999 and October 1999, depth to ground water at the site have shown a fluxuation <br /> between 14 feet bsg to 20 feet bsg,with a general ground water flow direction towards the northwest <br /> Ground water elevation contour maps for the site were included in previous Quarterly Reports <br /> prepared by AGE <br /> • Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc <br />
