01 June 1999
AGE-NC Project No 95-0137
'ell
' Great Valley Province has been subdivided into two major divisions identified as the Sacramento
and San Joaquin Valleys
The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the
principal sources of domestic ground water in the 13,500-square mile San Joaquin Valley Ground
Water Basin(Basin 5-22) This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River
2 3 LOCAL GROUND WATER SETTING
The closest surface water feature to the site is the Stanislaus River located approximately 9,000 feet
south of the site The river is used primarily for agricultural use and recreational boating Ground
water is currently encountered at a depth of approximately 17 feet below surface grade (bsg) at the
site, and has a northerly flow direction Ground water occurs in a generally sandy layer extending
from approximately 15 feet bsg to 25 feet bsg The sedimentary units are relatively horizontal and
' somewhat continuous over the site
f 2 4 WELL SURVEY
' A survey of ground water wells was conducted on 18 November 1998 Three ground water wells
within 2,000 feet of the subject property were identified as described below
' Domestic Wells Drinking water at the site is currently supplied by a domestic well, located
approximately 250 feet southeast of well MW-5 A second well, located 75 feet north of the site,
supplies water for the Jimco Truck Stop A third well serves the residence southeast of the site
' Several other local domestic wells were located and are summarized in Appendix A
Municipal Wells The City of Ripon has established twelve wells Five of the twelve wells have been
' either abandoned or are off-line due to high inorganic contamination Seven wells are operational
and are tested or have been tested for California Title 22 contaminants One well is located
' approximately 750 feet west of the site This well was recently established and has not been
activated This well is the only municipal well within 2,000 feet of the site, with the other wells
located more than 2,000 feet southeast of site The distance of this well from the subject site limits
its potential to be adversely impacted by the release of petroleum hydrocarbons on the site(Appendix
A)
' Threatened Well As described below, the domestic well for the Jimco Truck Stop is located within
the northen margin of the soil and ground water petroleum plumes,in a down-gradient direction from
the site, and is therefore the well most likely to be effected by the release of petroleum hydrocarbons
on the subject site
Advanced GeoEn%ironmental,Inc
1
