The plan as it was approved by the San Joaquin <br /> -- Department of Health, Environmental Health Division consisted <br /> Of the removal of contaminated soil in the upper 2C feet of <br /> soil and sediment. A discrete excavation was to be centered <br /> on each of the three previously existing dispenser islands. <br /> Field screening of the soils exposed in the excavations was <br /> proposed as a means of directing the excavation efforts. <br /> on completion of the excavations, soil samples were to <br /> be obtained as directed by the county represent <br /> ative,. who. was <br /> present at the site. Samples were taken to evaluate the <br /> _ concentrations of an <br /> Y potentially remaining petroleum <br /> .- <br /> hydrocarbons. Excavated ; <br /> petroleum contaminated soils were to <br /> be spread in lifts and aerated. Aerated soils were to be <br /> periodically composite-sampled and chemically analyzed to <br /> evaluate the presence of remaining petroleum.
