1.0 INTRODUCTION
This Appendix provides details for conducting an Aquifer Testing Program at the former
Ripon Farm Services site located at 938 Frontage Road in Ripon, California("Site").
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of the Aquifer Testing Program is to gather data for characterizing the shallow
aquifer at the Site. The scope of work includes the installation of a 6-inch diameter
monitoring well screened in the shallow aquifer, conducting step-drawdown tests to
determine appropriate extraction flow rates for aquifer characterization, and conducting a 24
to 72 hour constant discharge pumping test.
1.2 Background
The Site is currently vacant. The Site was recently used for bulk batching and distribution of
nitrogen-based fertilizers. The Site has a sump, a wash-rack containment area with two
concrete holding ponds, storage buildings, and a former bulk fertilizer preparation area. A
layout of the Site is shown on Figure D-1.
The Site is located in a mixed industrial/commercial area on the northwest side of Ripon and
is bounded by Highway 99 to the southwest; a truck stop with a truck wash to the north; and
agricultural and commercial uses to the south and east, respectively. The Site and
surrounding areas have been developed with predominantly industrial and agricultural uses
from the 1950s to the present.
2.0 AQUIFER TESTING PROCEDURES
Aquifer testing will be conducted on a shallow aquifer well that will be installed near the
middle of the Site and west of the sump as shown in Figure D-1.
2.1 Task 1—Pre-field Activities and Test Setup
Pre-field activities shall include scheduling field personnel, equipment rental, Site visit and
coordination activities. Prior to testing, field personnel will visit the Site to establish logistics
and any field constraints. Authorization from the City of Ripon for disposal of groundwater
generated during testing into the City's water system will also be secured.
2.2 Task 2—Baseline Water Level Survey
Before beginning the test, a 24-hour baseline water level survey will be conducted. The
baseline data will provide the basis for correcting pre-pumping water level fluctuations that
could be induced, barometric pressure changes, "noise"resulting from operation of nearby
wells, or loading of the aquifer by trains or other effects.
Ripon Farm Services,Inc.
