6E "
GENESIS ENGINEERING& REDEVELOPMENT
The continuous soil cores from each boring will be logged for soil type. Soil samples will be
taken from each boring at depths of 1 foot, 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 20 feet bgs, and in the
vadose zone immediately above the soil/water interface.
The drilling and soil and groundwater sampling procedures are discussed in Appendix A.
The soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for nitrate using EPA Method 300.1 and
ammonium using EPA Method 350.1.
2.2.2 Shallow Monitoring Wells
Seven soil borings will be advanced to the soil/water interface as described in Section 2.2.1. Tll Z/D
These borings however will continue to be advanced to a depth similar to that of the existing
on-Site monitoring wells, approximately 40 feet bgs, and then converted to monitoring wells.
Continuous soil cores will be logged for soil-type information. Soil samples will be collected
at 5 foot depth intervals(1 foot, 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 20 feet, 25 feet, 30 feet, 35 feet, and
40 feet bgs).
The boreholes will be converted into 2-inch diameter monitoring wells, with the well screen
interval extending from 30 feet to 40 feet bgs. The size of the well screen slots will be
determined based on subsurface material encountered at each proposed monitoring well
location. Upon completion of construction of the monitoring wells, each well will be
developed using surge and bail, and pumping techniques. Following well development, the
monitoring wells will be purged and groundwater samples collected.
The drilling, well installation, and soil and groundwater sampling procedures are discussed in
Appendix A. The soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for nitrate using EPA
Method 300.1 and ammonium using EPA Method 350.1.
2.2.3 Deep Borings
Five deep exploratory borings will be advanced to the base of the on-Site water production
well (195 feet bgs)using Roto-Sonic drilling technology. The continuous soil cores from
each boring will be logged for soil type. Soil samples will be collected at 20 foot depth
intervals (20 feet,40 feet, 60 feet, 80 feet, 100 feet, 120 feet, 140 feet, 160 feet, 180 feet, and
the bottom of the borehole 195 feet bgs). Soil samples also will be collected of the finer
grained material present between the shallow and deep water bearing units and tested for
vertical permeability.
Based on the well log for the on-site water production well, two sandy, potentially saturated
water bearing units may be present at estimated depths of 105 to 108 feet and 153 to 157 feet
Ripon Farm Services 4 of 7
Site Characterization Work Plan—Phase II
July 2009
