RM 1 of 2 <br /> RM - Stomar clay loam, 0 to 2 percent slopes . This very deep , well <br /> drained soil is on nearly level alluvial fans . It formed in alluvium <br /> from sedimentary rock sources . Elevation is 40 to 300 feet . The <br /> average annual precipitation is about 10 inches , the average annual air <br /> temperature is about 60 degrees F, and the average frost-free period is <br /> about 270 days . <br /> Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown clay loam about 17 inches <br /> thick . ' The upper 9 inches of the subsoil is brown clay loam. The <br /> lower 21 inches is brown clay. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches <br /> or more is yellowish brown clay loam. It is calcareous between the <br /> depths of 17 and 60 inches . In some areas the surface layer is silty <br /> clay loam or loam. <br /> Included in this unit are small areas of Capay, E | So | yo , Willows and <br /> Pescadero soils. Also included are small areas of soils similar to <br /> Stomar soils with mottles at depths of 24 to 36 inches or high water <br /> tables at depths of 48 to 60 inches . Included areas make up about 15 <br /> percent of the total acreage . <br /> Permeability of this Stomar soil is slow. Available water capacity is <br /> high . Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more . Runoff is slow , <br /> and the hazard of water erosion is slight . <br /> Most areas of this unit are used for irrigated cropland and orchards . <br /> A few areas are used for dry | and grain and homesite development . <br />
