Stantec
Interim Remedial Action Plan
Former ARCO Service Station No. 443
July 10, 2008
location requirements. The top of the casings of all wells located on-site and off-site will be
surveyed by a California-licensed land surveyor for horizontal and vertical control. The
coordinates will be referenced to a known benchmark according to the North American Datum
of 1983 and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
2.6 Waste Handling and Disposal
All investigation derived waste (IDW), including soil cuttings and purge water from well
installation and development will be stored on-site in Department of Transportation-approved
55-gallon drums pending the results of laboratory analyses. Analytical results will be used for
waste profiling and disposal. After profiling, IDW will be transported and disposed of at an
appropriate State-certified disposal facility.
2.7 Interim Response Activities
The scope of work for interim remediation will include the periodic pumping of groundwater from
wells MW-1S, MW-2S, and MW-1D. Groundwater will be pumped approximately once per
month from the above-mentioned wells using a vacuum truck or a submersible groundwater
extraction pump. Water will hauled by a certified hazardous waste hauler for proper disposal.
Interim remediation will continue for approximately 6-12 months.
2.8 Reporting
A report summarizing the field activities and results will be prepared and submitted to the
SJC/EHD. The report will include tabulated field data, relevant figures, appendices containing
laboratory reports, copies of field notes and data sheets, conclusions, and possible
recommendations for future work. Per AB 2886 requirements, Stantec will electronically upload
the data obtained during this investigation into the Geotracker Database.
2.9 Scheduling
Stantec is prepared to initiate field activities upon approval of this work plan by the SJC/EHD
and off-site access approval. Stantec anticipates that drilling fieldwork will require
approximately ten to 12 weeks to complete, following the receipt of approved access
agreements from property owners and valid permits from the SJC/EHD. If offsite access is
delayed and onsite scope of work is acceptable to the site's property owner, then the onsite
work will proceed and the offsite delineation work will be completed at a later date.
5
443 IRAP.doc
