Quik Stop Station No 079 June 20, 2002
Turlock, California Results of Additional Groundwater Assessment
. On May 23, 2002, three soil borings (SB-1 through SB-3) were advanced at the locations
shown on Figure 2 The soil borings were advanced using a hollow-stem auger ng fitted
with 6-inch diameter augers Soil samples were collected from the borings at five-foot
intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg and field screened for the presence of volatile petroleum
hydrocarbon vapors with a portable photo-ionization detector (PID) Soil descriptions,
sampling information, field-screening data and well construction details were recorded on
soil boring logs (Appendix D) Soils were described using the Unified Soil Classification
System (USCS) Soil cuttings were stockpiled at the site on and covered with plastic Four
representative samples were collected from the soil stockpile after completion of drilling
The soil borings were advanced to depths of approximately 65 feet bsg as indicated on the
boring logs Thirteen soil samples were collected from each soil boring No subjective
evidence of petroleum hydrocarbon impacts or positive PID readings were noted during field
screening of the soil samples Groundwater was encountered in the borings at approximately
64 feet bsg Hydropunch groundwater samples were collected over the interval of
approximately 65 to 68 feet bsg after driving the hydropunch sampler approximately 3 feet
Groundwater samples were retrieved from the hydropunch tool utilizing a decontaminated
stainless steel bailer and decanted into laboratory-prepared sample containers The soil
borings were backfilled with neat cement after collection of the hydropunch groundwater
samples
The soil and groundwater samples were submitted to Kiff Analytical LLC (Kiff), a
California Department of Health Services-certified analytical laboratory (ELAP No 2236)
located in Davis, California The soil stockpile composite sample was analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), the volatile aromatic compounds benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX), the fuel oxygenate methyl-t-butyl ether
(MTBE) by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8260B, and for total lead by
EPA Method 6010B
•
079rpt6-02
Project No 7079 13 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL
