Box 5811
San Mateo, California 94402
Subject: Executive Summary of Report of a Limited Environmental Investigation at
ARCO Service Station No. 6100, 25775 South Patterson Pass, Tracy,
California.
Mr. Chrisiie:
At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO),Applied GeoSystems conducted an
environmental investigation limited to evaluating soil for evidence of gasoline hydrocarbons
at the subject site. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate soil for possible
gasoline hydrocarbons before the removal of underground gasoline-storage tanks.
Applied GeoSystems was at the site an lune 6 through 8, 1990, to observe Wayne Drilling
of Lincoln, California, drill five soil borings. Three soil borings were drilled near the
underground storage tanks (borings 13-1 through B-3) and two soil borings were drilled in
the area of the new tank cavity (B-4 and B-5).
fin+ A 6-inch wet soil sample was collected from approximately 19-1/2 to 20 feet below grade
in borings 13-1 and B-3. A wet sample was logged between 14-1/2 and 15 feet below grade
in boring B-4. The saturated zone did not produce an adequate amount of water to
accumulate in the boring. The 6-inch sample below these wet samples was logged as damp.
A saturated zone was not detected in borings B-2 and B-5.
In the area of the existing tank cavity, hydrocarbons were detected to 4S feet in boring B-1,
20 feet in boring B-2, and 10 feet in boring B-3. Laboratory results of samples collected
from these intervals indicate total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPHg) from 49 to
1,900 parts per million(ppm). Concentrations of benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,and total .
xylene isomers (BTEX) ranged from below detection limits to 150 ppm. In the area of the
proposed tank cavity, hydrocarbons were also detected in the samples collected from 15 and
20 feet below grade from borings B-4 and B-5 (42 to 810 ppm of TPHg).
r
