Umiied Environmental Investigation May 15, 1940
ARCO Service Station 6100, Tracy, California AGS 30041-1W
Drilling Procedures
i
Before drilling, we will acquire a permit from the SJPHS for drilling a minimum of three
E
soil borings in the area of the gasoline tank cavity. Applied GeoSystems will contact
ti
® Underground Service Alert as least 48 hours before drilling to delineate public utility lines
afWe ' e ren itiatirg drilling. Before drilling, each borehole will be hand-augered 3
to 5 feet below grade.
The soil borings will be drilled using a truckmounted rig equipped with 8-inch-diameter,
.. i
i
continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers. The drilling will be performed under the guidance
of a field geoIogist,.and the earth materials will be logged as drilled by the Unified Soil
Classification System.
We will drill the first 8-inch-diameter boring approximately 2-1/2 feet from the edge of the
f
tank area near the fill ends of the product tanks to 30 feet below grade, ground water, or
® auger refusal,whichever is encountered first. A photoionization detector(PID)will be used ;
4
Y to evaluate soil samples for gasoline hydrocarbons. Field instruments such as the PID are
useful for indicating relative levels of gasolir--- hydrocarbon vapors, but do not detect the
concentration of gasoline hydrocarbons present with the same precision as laboratory
analyses. If the PID reading is greater than 50 parts per million(ppm) in the soil sample
_L 4
Apa/red 4Ge40SYWeMS
