Quarterly Monitoring Report, July 2000
F Canepa's Car Wash (Pacific Avenue)
Page A
also analyzed for methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) and for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total
r xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8021B .
Laboratory analyses indicate that none of the analytes of interest were detected at or above the laboratory
reported detection limits in the groundwater samples collected from monitor wells MW-5 through MW-8.
BTEX and MTBE were detected in the groundwater sample collected from monitor well MW- 1 at
concentrations of 400 micrograms per liter (µg/L), 110 µg/L, 49 µg/L, 86 µg/L, and 330 µg/L,
respectively. TPH-G was detected in the groundwater sample collected from MW- 1 at a concentration of
0 .66 milligrams per liter (mg/L). BTEX and MTBE were detected in the groundwater sample collected
from monitor well MW-2 at concentrations of 64,000 µg/L, 31500 µg/L, 2,400 µg/L, 8,800 µg/L, and 350
µg/L, respectively. TPH-G was detected in the groundwater sample collected from MW-2 at a
concentration of 71 mg/L. MTBE was detected in the groundwater sample collected from MW-3 at a
concentration of 6.7 pg/L. Toluene and TPH-G were detected in the groundwater sample collected from
monitor well MW-4 at concentrations of 1 . 8 µg2 and 0 . 10 mg/L, respectively. BTEX and MTBE were
detected in the groundwater sample collected from soil vapor extraction well SV-4 at concentrations of
560 µg/L, 110 µg/L, 34 µg/L, 60 µg/L and 46,000 µg/L respectively. TPH-G was detected in the
groundwater sample collected from SV-4 at 0.8 mg/L. A summary of the laboratory analytical results is
presented in Table 2 (below) and in Figure 3 , Appendix A. Laboratory report sheets indicating analytical
methods used, detection limits, and the results of the analyses are included in Appendix C. Historical
groundwater analyses are presented in Table A, Appendix B.
TABLE 2
LABORATORY ANALYTICAL RESULTS (JULY 2000)
B T E X TPA-G MTBE
Detection limits: 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.6 0.05 1 .0
Monitor Well I.D. pg/L µg/L µg/L M/L mg/L µg/L
1707-MW] -7/11/00 400 110 49 86 0.66 330
1707-MW2-7/11/00 64,000 37500 29400 83800 71 350
1707-MW3-7/ 11/00 ND ND ND ND ND 6.7
7707-MW4-7/10/00 ND 1 . 8 ND ND 0. 10 ND
1707-MW5-7/10/00 ND ND ND ND ND ND
1707-MW6-7/10/00 ND ND ND ND ND ND
1707-MW7-7/11/00 ND ND ND ND ND ND
1707-MW8-7/10/00 ND ND ND ND ND IVD
1707-SV4-7/11 /00 560 110 34 60 0.8 46,000
Unit Conversions: Analytical
µg/L:pans per billion (ppb) B,T,E,X = benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes.
mg/L:parts per million (ppm) TPH-G = total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline.
MTBE = Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether.
ND = not detected at or above the laboratory reported detection limit.
n•
L lr' CONDOR
