Canepa:
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received and reviewed
Groundwater Remediation Feasibility Study Work Plan (work plan) dated 16 December 2013,
prepared and submitted by your consulting firm , Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc. (AGE) , on
your behalf for the above-referenced site . AGE had first recommended that a work plan be
submitted to conduct an in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) pilot test in Feasibility Study Report,
dated 13 August 2013; and the EHD had conditionally approved by letter dated 14 October
2013 the submittal of a work plan to determine the effects of a chemical oxidant on the
subsurface groundwater contaminants of concern and the formation of harmful bi-products such
as hexavalent chromium .
In the work plan, AGE proposes:
Collection of background/baseline groundwater field parameters [depth-to-water,
temperature, pH, total dissolved solids (TDS) , oxygen reduction potential (ORP) , salinity,
turbidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO)]; and chemical analyses [total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) , volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) method 82606, bromate, bromide, chloride,
nitrate, nitrate as nitrogen , nitrate as nitrate ion (N031 sulfate, hexavalent chromium ,
aluminum , antimony, arsenic, barium , beryllium , cadmium , chromium III , calcium , cobalt,
copper, iron , lead, magnesium, manganese, mercury, molybdenum , nickel, potassium ,
selenium, silver, sodium , thallium , tungsten, and vanadium] by monitoring and sampling
monitoring wells MWA , MW-2, MW-3, MW-6 and soil vapor well SV-5 or SV-8 prior to
the first hydrogen peroxide application ;
Preparation of a five percent solution of hydrogen peroxide in an acidified solution of
sulfuric acid as described in Section 5. 1 of the work plan ;
A Performance of four hydrogen peroxide injection events at two-week intervals , using
either pressure injection or gravity feeding techniques , at dedicated injection points
SV-4, SW5, SV-7 and SV-8;
