Hinson, REHS
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P . O . Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201 -2009
RE: Canepa's Car Wash, Pacific Ave. , Stockton
Dear Diane,
This cover letter is an effort to summarize the current situation at Canepa's Car Wash on
Pacific Avenue in Stockton.
We have discovered a significant mounding of the groundwater near the center of the
contamination plume. The mound is approximately one foot higher than the normal
groundwater as measured in the perimeter wells. This condition will accelerate the
movement of contaminated groundwater from the site. As a consequence of this urgent
situation, I am meeting with Remo Canepa today to see if we can isolate the source of
what is probably a water leak somewhere in the car wash, and make repairs.
In addition, we would like to immediately perform a 24 hour drawdown test on MW- 1 , a
4" well located in the mound area. We want to determine the capture radius of the well,
and see if we can reduce the mounding and pull the contamination back towards the center foo
of the site. We propose to pump approximately 60,000 gallons of water at a rate of 5 gpm
and treat the water with carbon prior to discharge into the sewer system. We will obtain
the appropriate permit from the City P . O. T .W. prior to making a discharge to the sewer.
Please call us if you have any comments or objections to this proposed action.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Steve Furnas
WHF, Inc.
