.I
WORKPLAN
SOIL BORING AND MONITOR WELL INSTALLATION
CANEPA' S CAR WASH
6230 PACIFIC AVENUE
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
PREPARED BY:
CONDOR EARTH TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
November 17, 1998
1. INTRODUCTION
This is a Work Plan for the installation of three soil borings and three additional monitor wells at the
!, ' l Canepa's Car Wash facility located at 6230 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California (Figure 1 , Appendix A).
The work plan was prepared by Condor Earth Technologies, hic. (Condor) at the request of Mr. Remo
Canepa. The work plan was requested by Mr. Ronald Rowe of the San Joaquin Comity Public Health
Services/Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) in correspondence dated July 28, 1998 .
l
The additional soil borings and monitor wells are required to further characterize the site and to
supplement data being gathered from the existing monitor wells at the site. The existing monitor wells at
the site have a screened interval well below the current water table and provide little information
pertaining to the vadose zone/groundwater interface.
!I
2. SITE BACKGROUND
Canepa's Car Wash consists of an automated car washing facility, a fuel station, and a convenience store
J (Figure 2, Appendix A) . The car wash and fuel station have been in operation for approximately 20
ll years.
In the Spring of 1993, three underground fuel tanks, fuel lines and dispensers were removed and replaced
with a double-walled system. The tanks consisted of two 12,000-gallon gasoline tanks and one 5,000-
gallon diesel tank. When the tanks were removed it was discovered that the fuel lines had leaked and
that the tanks had been overfilled. Approximately 600 cubic yards of soil were removed from the fuel
tank excavation area.
Beginning in March, 1993 , one soil boring and a network of nine soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells were
installed in the area of the fuel dispenser islands. Between September, 1993, and March, 1994, eight
monitoring wells (MW- 1 through MW-8) were installed. Five of the monitor wells (MW-1, through
MW-5 ) were constructed with a screened interval from approximately 50 to 70 feet bgs. The remaining
monitor wells were constructed with a screen interval from approximately 45 to 65 feet bgs. The depth
to groundwater measured at the site on October 22, 1998 was between approximately 35 and 37 feet bgs.
A detailed Site History is included in Appendix B .
IJ 3. FIELD AND ANALYTICAL METHODS
This section includes a description of the proposed field and analytical methods used to install and
sample the proposed soil borings and monitor wells . The soil and groundwater investigation report is
discussed in Section 4.
t , CONDOR
