CHEMICAL HAZARDS
The possible major contaminants to be encountered on the project are petroleum fuel
hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Inhalation and dermal (absorption) hazards are the major area of concern, regarding
the exposure to VOCs. Results of toxicological studies on animal exposure to pure
concentrations of the VOCs that have been detected at the site are detailed in
Handbook of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals, by M. Sittig (1981), and Dangerous
Properties of Industrial Materials, by N. Irving Sax (1984). An additional reference
source used for the development of this Site Safety Plan is the Documentation of the
Threshold Limit Values, published by the ACGIH (American Conference of
Governmental Industrial Hygienists, Inc.).
x
3104001/SSPDRILL 3 October 7, 1993
