B. PACIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP, INC. SAFETY OFFICER <br /> The Company Safety Officer reports to the Pacific Environmental Group, Inc. <br /> (PACIFIC) Senior Management and is responsible for assuring on-site safety and loss <br /> prevention functions. <br /> Responsibilities include: <br /> o Health surveillance of all PACIFIC employees. <br /> o Assuring that safety procedures in effect are in compliance with all <br /> appropriate federal, state, and company regulations. <br /> o Maintenance of personnel exposure monitoring records. <br /> o Assuring appropriate personal protective equipment is adequate for <br /> actual hazards of on-site conditions. <br /> o Assuring appropriate exclusion areas are identified and delineated. <br /> 3.0 JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS <br /> A. CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> The possible major contaminants to be encountered on the project are petroleum fuel <br /> hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). <br /> Inhalation and dermal (absorption) hazards are the major area of concern, regarding <br /> the exposure to VOCs. Results of toxicological studies on animal exposure to pure <br /> concentrations of the VOCs that have been detected at the site are detailed in <br /> Handbook of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals, by M. Sittig (1981), and Dangerous <br /> Properties of Industrial Materials, by N. Irving Sax (1984).
