_
tzi
Jul 28, 1988 AGS .lob No. 38012-2
A Y
' Former UNOCAL Service Station, Stockton, California
A geologist from Applied Geosystems was present at the site on
r
March 30, 1988, to collect eight soil samples from beneath the
base of the tanks. The tanks were removed and soil was excavated
from the tank cavity with an excavator. The removed tanks were
hauled by Triangle, Inc. , to its facility in Sacramento.
Six soil samples were collected from native and silty clay at
approximately 16 feet below the ground surface in the gasoline
storage tank cavity, or 2 feet below the bases of the former
gasoline tanks. Samples were collected below each end of the
, t tanks and below the former fill ports at the centers of the
tank. Another sample was collected from approximately 8 feet
below the ground surface, or 2 feet below the base of the former
waste-oil tank. Obvious hydrocarbon odor, inferred to be
gasoline, was present in three soil samples. Some evidence of
soil contamination was noted in the native material below the
tanks and in the walls of the excavation. Because subjective
evidence of hydrocarbon contamination was detected bylaw the
former gasoline storage tanks, additional soil was excavated to
reduce the levels of remaining contaminants. The additional
excavation was done at the request of UNOCAL and with the
- _.- -- ---- approval--_o i._the--of --The--tan3--cavi.t1-dimens.ions_._were_ enlarged ------ - ------
"-% to approximately 25 by 35 feet, and a bench was cut into the
- 3
,4VP11e0F GevSystenls
