Probable sources for solvent and diesel-impacted soil and ground water at
the Tracy Yard include:
• Above-ground, 12,000-gallon storage tanks where locomotive
diesel unloading activities may have occurred;
• Past maintenance activities in the Engine House; and,
• Structures formerly associated with the collection, conveyance and
treatment of hydrocarbon waste streams. These structures include
collection sumps, the drainage interceptors for storm water runoff
and oily discharges from past site operations, and the three former
surface impoundments which served as an oil/water separator.
On-site locomotive maintenance operations ceased in 1987. At that time,
refueling was drastically reduced and is currently performed at alternate
off-site locations or via tank truck in contained (track pan) areas. The
above-ground tanks were converted into oil/water separators and receive
effluent from the track pan connection system. Current operations and
the anticipated future operations at the site are primarily related to railcar
storage and hookup.
Report Organization
This RDIP is organized into seven sections and four appendices. The
contents of this RDIP are described in Table 1-1.
1-3
