' 18 October 2002
• AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
' 2 2 1 Ground Water Extraction System Operation
On-site extraction well EW-1 was adjusted at the well-head to continuously extract ground water
during the third quarter 2002 at an average flow rate of 3 5 gallons per minute(GPM), the extracted
ground water was routed through a ground water treatment system consisting of granular activated
carbon(GAC) and Sunsolve® Following treatment, water was discharged underground via 1-inch
' diameter, schedule 80 polyvinylchlonde (PVC) pipe underground along the west side of the site to
the City of Stockton discharge line located in Rose Marie Lane A diagram of the remediation system
is provided in Figure 2a
Based on effluent flow meter readings (Table 4), approximately 168,211 gallons of treated water
were extracted and discharged to the City of Stockton sewer system during the third quarter 2002
' under City of Stockton Public Works Department(SPWD)Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit
No 01
222r
2Ground water Extraction System Water Sampling Procedures
• On 15 July and 15 August 2002,AGE collected grab ground water samples from the water treatment
system, the water samples were collected from valved ports located upstream (influent) and
I downstream (effluent) of the treatment unit The influent samples were collected in laboratory-
supplied 40-m1 EPA-approved volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative, and into 1-liter amber bottles without preservative
Effluent samples were collected in the same containers and into 500-milliliter plastic bottles without
preservative Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after
filling and capping
Water sample containers were labeled with the sample designation, date, time, and sampler's initials
Subsequently, the samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to MAI for analysis The samples were analyzed for
• TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
° BTEX and MTBE by EPA Methods 8020
In addition, to satisfy SPWD Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit No 01, effluent ground water
samples were analyzed for
° Five metals (Cd, Cr, Cu,Pb,Ni and Zn) in accordance with EPA Method 200 Modified and
• pH in accordance with EPA Method 150 1
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai Inc
I
