. KEI-P89-1104 .R7
December 10, 1990
Page 4
final soil samples collected from product pipe trenches, {samples
P1 (6) , P2 (17) , P3 (5) and P4 (8) 1 , indicated levels of TPH as
gasoline ranging from non-detectable to 1.7 ppm, with non-detect-
able levels of benzene, except sample P2 (17) , which showed 7, 200
ppm of TPH as gasoline and 170 ppm of benzene. Analyses of vapor
piping trench samples indicated non-detectable levels of TPH as
gasoline for sample V1, and 4 .2 ppm TPH as gasoline for sample V2 ,
with non-detectable levels of EDB in each case.
The waste oil tank bottom and remote fill piping samples showed
non-detectable levels of TEPH and all EPA method 8010, 8020 and
8080 constituents.
Analyses of the water sample from the on-site domestic well
indicated 160 ppb of TPH as gasoline, with non-detectable con-
centrations of all other analytes.
The analytical results for the old and new fuel tank pit, product
pipe trench and vapor pipe trench soil samples are summarized in
Table 4 . The analytical results for waste oil tank bottom and
. remote fill piping soil samples are summarized xn Table 5.
Analytical results for the water sample are summarized in Table 6.
To comply with the requirements of the regulatory agencies and
based on the analytical results, KEI proposed installation of four
monitoring wells. Results of the soil samples from the tank
excavation are summarized in KEI 's report (KEI-P-89-1104 .R1) dated
January 8, 1990.
Mr. Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS, per telephone conversations on
February 7 and March 8 , 1990, required that the water well be
properly destroyed due to the levels of TPH as gasoline indicated
in the laboratory analyses results and that one additional water
sample be collected after all piping and the pump are removed from
the well, and the well purged of at least three to four well
volumes.
A site inspection conducted on March 15, 1990 by Mr. Don Braun of
KEI, and Mr. Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS indicates that the vicinity
of the existing well had been paved with asphaltic concrete and
that an old concrete Christy box was placed around the well and
remaining piping. The well seal appeared in tact. The well casing
was locally exposed and appeared to be steel and about six-inches
in diameter.
The service station was connected to the municipal water system and
disconnected from the on-site water well prior to April, 1990.
