2.1.1 Solt Sampling Procedures
Equipment used for sampling was pre-cleaned prior to arnval at the site, and all sampling
equipment was decontaminated between each sampling location using a non-phosphate detergent,
and a de-ionized water rinse
On June 4, 1993 characterization soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil in the
former tank excavation. A hand auger was used to dell through the top layer of plastic sheeting
to the desired depth in the stockpiled soil. One eight-part composite sample (GS-1) was
collected from the stockpiled soil to be analyzed for the CAM 17 metals collected from varying
depths to a maximum depth of four feet below the surface of the stockpile. Three eight-part
composite samples (GS-2 through GS-4) were collected from the stockpiled soil to be analyzed
for TPH, VOCs and BTEX from one feet, three feet and four feet below the stockpile surface.
The soil samples collected for laboratory analysis were immediately sealed with teflon sheeting
and plastic end caps The end caps were then sealed to the brass tube with duct tape The
samples were then labelled, put into a plastic zipper-lock bag, placed into a cooler containing
ice and delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to MBT Laboratories in Rancho Cordova,
California, a state certified laboratory
2 1.2 Cha mwtenzatuon Soil Sample Results
The analytical results indicated that no detectable concentrations of TPH, VOCs or BTEX were
. present in the three analyzed eight-part composite samples The metals concentrations detected
were below the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Total Threshold Limit Concentrations
(TTLC) values Based on the analytical data, the soil material was accepted for disposal at the
Forward Landfill Soil analytical data sheets and chain-of-custody records are included as
Appendix III
2.2 Excavation Procedures
Prior to commencing excavation procedures, the City of Stockton Fire Department, Police
Department and Traffic Engineering Department were notified that excavation and transportation
activities would be occurring at the subject site resulting in re-routing traffic flow at the Venetian
Square Shopping Center. The temporary fencing that was placed around the excavation was
used to block off the entire work area which included the southern (Rose Mane Lane) access
road to the Venetian Square Shopping Center.
On June 14, 1993 excavation procedures began The 22 55-gallon drums containing soil cuttings
were emptied onto the stockpiled soil in the excavation. The drums were assembled and
temporarily stored on-site The drums were removed from the site by Western Drum Recyclers
on July 2, 1993 to be cleaned and conditioned for re-use
A two inch metal water main, owned by the California Water Service Company of Stockton,
intersected the excavation at the south end. A PVC pipe extended from the meter onto the
s
0712k,Q 6
