s J
Mr. C. Leland Hall - 2 - August 28, 1987
Chevron submitted tank removal/installation plans and permit applications to the San
3uaquin Health Department in November 1986. It is our understanding that review of
these permit drawings is currently on hold until Chevron submits a final remedial action
plan for the subject site. Because this station is currently operating, and the existing
tanks are a liability due to their age, Chevron requests your review and approval to
remove and replace the steel tanks with double wall fiberglass tanks. Removing these
tanks will accomplish two things:
1. The liability and potential for future leaks at this site is reduced.
2. Removal of the tanks allows access to the subsurface soil for visual and laboratory
analysis and visual inspection of the tanks. Any contaminated soil can be excavated
and aerated or sent to a Class I landfill, eliminating one potential for further
groundwater degradation. Tank removal would certainly provide information to
enhance the data for assessment of the problem at this site.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting concerning this site, please
call me at (415) 838.5302, or Gordon Davitt at (415) 839-5225.
Sincerely,
D.
