The plan was prepared in response to
requirements included in Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 5-00-021. After reviewing the
workplan, I have the following comments:
• The survey of the well casing elevations should be accurate to at least 0.01 foot, consistent with
the accuracy of the water level sounding measurement.
• The proposed well construction includes a well screen section 10-feet long. It is unknown if data
on the variation of groundwater elevation was reviewed, or is available. You should consider
installing a 20-foot long section of well screen, if subsurface conditions are amenable. A well
with a longer well screen might not go dry when the water table lowers in the summer months.
• The six-inch diameter boring diameter will not allow construction of a well with a minimum
two-inch annular seal which is required by California Well Standards. Please revise the drilling
equipment selection to be consistent with the Well Standards.
The percentage of bentonite in the bentonite/cement slurry well grout is not stated. Please limit
the bentonite percentage to a maximum value of six-percent by weight to prevent excessive
shrinkage of the cement mix. Alternatively, use no bentonite in the neat cement.
The workplan is approved on the condition that the above comments are addressed in an addendum letter
to be submitted by 2 June 2000. If you have any questions on this conditional approval, please
telephone me at (916) 255-3116.
i
TIMOTHY R.
