In sum, because Costco's actual use of the lot was <br />significantly delayed, and because the need for the truck parking available at the property <br />persists, Costco respectfully requests that the County extend the end date of the approval through <br />December 31, 2023, so Costco can continue to meet its increased distribution demands and to <br />provide goods and services to assist the public in combatting and addressing the COVID-19 <br />pandemic. <br />Rest assured, Costco is neither taking this acute truck trailer parking capacity issue lightly <br />nor is Costco taking for granted the County's gracious willingness to extend this approval. <br />Indeed, Costco has been hard at work acquiring land, developing plans, and constructing lots for <br />replacement truck parking facilities at three separate nearby locations. First, at Costco's property <br />located at 26901 S. Hansen Road, Costco is currently constructing the parking lot that the <br />County approved in Site Approval No. PA -1900143, and recently submitted application <br />PA -2100207 to the County to expand the amount of parking capacity at that site. Second, Costco <br />recently acquired two parcels across Hansen Road from the large Safeway distribution facility <br />and is developing plans to entitle and construct additional parking capacity there. This effort will <br />require annexation to the City for utility purposes, so will take some time to accomplish. Third, <br />Costco has had preliminary discussions with the County and is finalizing plans and an <br />application to modify areas of the existing Costco Depot and Meat Plant on Schulte Road to add <br />additional truck parking spaces.
