frontage of the lot. There is one residence, garage, a barn and
outbuildings on the parcel. Figure 2 shows the former UST area,
buildings, monitoring wells, calculated gradient for April 1999,
with streets in proximity to the parcel.
4. WELL SURVEY
Potable water is furnished by the Pescadora water District to the
homes and farms on Tom Paine Road within 2, 000 feet of the
subject site. One recorded well exists at 18777 S Tom Paine Road
and is marked on Figure 3 . The information concerning that well
is included as Appendix B. The Monitoring wells on the subject
site are indicated in Figure 4 .
5 . HISTORIC GROUNDWATER LEVELS
No groundwater samples were collected when the UST removal, as
there was no groundwater in the excavation in August 1991 . WM.
J. HUNTER & ASSOCIATES (HUNTER) completed both a soil and
groundwater sampling event in November 1991 and again in
January 1992 . HUNTER estimated the groundwater table to be
approximately 6 to 12 feet below ground surface.
The results of the quarterly depth to groundwater measurements by
JPCA are noted in Table 1. The top of the well casing is
approximately 2 feet above ground surface . Table 1 shows, by
quarter, t1fe calculated Gradient in direction and ft/ft. The
groundwater depth from the ground surface varies from
approximately five to ten feet. The variation is believed to be
caused by seasonal rains and irrigation. The gradient variation
is most likely caused by irrigation.
A. Gradient Calculation
Prior to purging the wells and collecting groundwater samples,
the depth to groundwater was measured on April 13, 1999 . Field
notes are contained in Appendix C.
The depth to groundwater was measured in the three wells, by an
electronic probe, from the mark located on the top of each
casing. The results of the data collected on April 13, 1999 are
contained in Table 2 . The calculated gradient historically is
generally SSE at 0 . 012 ft/ft.
3
