programs for UST. It was reported that the UST did not require a
• permit ( farm fuel tank) , however an UST Closure Permit was
requested by the SIERRA BAY FEDERAL LAND BANK ASSOCIATION and
approval received from the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division (SJCEHD) . Soil samples collected in the
excavation at the time of tank removal indicated hydrocarbon
contamination. No groundwater was reported in the excavation.
The analysis of the soil samples collected on November 6 and 21,
1991 from approximately 7 to 14 feet below grade in the area
around the former UST excavation indicated hydrocarbon
contamination. Groundwater samples collected, using a
Hydropunch, on November 6 and 21, 1991 and analyzed indicated
very low values of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHG) and Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene. No benzene was
reported in the groundwater samples.
On May 30, 1995 , JPCA constructed three monitoring wells on this
site, Figure 2. Soil samples collected from these borings were
analyzed. On June 5, 1995 , six days after the installation of
the wells, JPCA collected groundwater samples which were
analyzed.
The soil and groundwater samples collected were analyzed for
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) and Benzene,
Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) . The groundwater samples
were analyzed for TPHG by EPA Method 8015 modified with purge and
trap preparation 5030 (GC/FID) with detection limits of 50ug/1.
EPA Method 602 was utilized for BTEX with a detection limit of
0 . 5ug/l as required by the SJCEHD.
The results of the analysis of the soil samples indicated minor
levels of contamination in parts per million (PPM) .
The results of the analysis of the groundwater samples indicated
low levels of hydrocarbon contamination.
JPCA notified the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Division (SJCEHD) inspector 48 hours prior to initiation of field
work for this quarterly work and commencement of the File
Closure process. On April 13 and 14, 1999, John P. Cummings of
JPCA collected groundwater samples, at the same time VBI In SITU
collected soil samples from four Hydropunch borings.
3 . PRESENT SITE USE
The site is an approximately 53 acre rectangular shaped parcel
located at 18775 Tom Paine Road, Tracy CA. Presently the use of
the parcel is for farming. The parcel is basically flat with a
concrete irrigation ditch running along the Tom Paine Road
2
