Fifth Amended Permit for Wells and Test Borings-Tower Park Marina
water generated through well development andur ing will be stored on-site in approved 55-
P g
gallon drums pending laboratory analyses to detemiine a proper disposal method. Should the
wells contain free product, the approximate thickness of free product will be measured and
the free product will be hand bailed from the wells prior to development.
All wells will be surveyed for location and elevation relative to an assumed
benchmark by Law/Crandall, Inc: personnel. Ground water elevations will be measured and
y the flow direction will be estimated in order to assess the direction of potential contaminant
migration beneath the site.
Each well will be sampled with a new clear plastic bailer and visually
examined for the presence of floating petroleum product. The approximate thickness of free
product, if present, will be measured. Ground water samples will be collected from wells
which do not contain free product.
Well sampling will be conducted after at least four well casing volumes of
water have been removed, the pH,conductivity and temperature have stabilized, and the
water level has recovered to 80 percent of its initial level. Where water recovery is slow, the !
sample will be collected after stabilization is achieved and enough water is present to fill the
sample container(s). The sample containers will be sealed and labeled. Appropriate
information, such as time, sampler, approximate depth to water, and visual observations,
will be noted on sampling forms.
C The ground water samples will be placed on ice in a thermally insulated
cooler, transported to a state certified laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation, and
analyzed for TPH/D,TPH/G and BTEX.
3a. A free product recovery system will be installed to minimize the spread of
contamination to soil and/or groundwater. The free product recovery system will consist of
shallow trench(es)or sump(s) to collect free product. Approval from Reclamation District
#548 will be obtained prior to construction. Areas where free product was previously
encountered during sampling activities will be excavated using a backhoe. Excavation is
proposed in the following areas:
• Near the manifold;
• Near the gasoline piping trench where the transit pipe
containing free product was initially found;
• Near soil vapor survey locations where free product was
previously found. !
If free product is found,a shallow trench, with an approximate depth of 4 feet
willbe constructed. Free product will be removed from the trench via an explosion proof
pump or bucket bailing to a containment vessel, such as a 55-gallon drum. The free product
containers will be manifested and transported off-site to an appropriate facility. The initial
width and depth of each trench is expected to be approximately 2 feet- However, a larger area
may be required depending on the volume of product encountered.
Following the initial collection of free product,if any, the bottom of each
C
2
