7810 Thornton (toad,Stockton,California
2.0 SUMMARY
Specific work performed during this Preliminary Investigation conducted by
Augeas Corporation included:
1. Preparation of a Site Investigation Workplan,a site-specific Health and
Safety Plan, and submittal of boring permits.
2. Drilling of four exploratory soil borings with a truck-mounted drill rig.
3. Collection of soil samples at 5-foot intervals in the soil borings, from
five feet below ground surface to a depth of approximately 50 feet.
Continuous lithologic logging of each of the boreholes and the field
screening of all samples collected with a 580B OVM photoionization
detector (PID).
4. Analysis of soil samples for volatile aromatic compounds including
benzene, toluene, total xylenes, and ethylbenzene (BTEX) and total
petroleum hydrocarbon products (TPHg) in the gasoline range; se-
lected samples were submitted for oil and grease analysis(EPA Method
41.8.1).
5. Preparation of this technical report.
In summary, minor soil contamination remains in the vicinity of the former tank
excavation, most likely as a result from the periodic leakage or spillage of
petroleum fuels from a surface pump and/or fuel dispenser. The near surface
soils in the original storage tank excavation area still contain minor concentra-
tions of highly weathered(old)petroleum components. This subsurface inves-
tigation identified that minor soil contamination restricted primarily to the
immediate area of the former tank excavation, and was not found below a depth
of approximately 5 to 7 feet beneath the ground surface in borings SB-1 and SB-
2.
Project Number: USD070192 Page 2 of 9
i
