15 June 2001 <br /> • AGE-NC Project No 96-0263 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> 2 5 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT <br /> On 26 March 2001, monitoring wells MW9, MW10 and MW11 were developed utilizing a stainless <br /> steel hand bailer and a two-stage submersible pump Ground water was purged from each monitoring <br /> well until ground water was visually sedunent free, approximately 25 gallons of water were removed <br /> from MW9 and MW 10 and 20 gallons of water were removed from MW 11 Purged groundwater <br /> was containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved model 17H 55-gallon drums and was stored <br /> on-site Field sheets and data aie included in Appendix B <br /> 2 6 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES <br /> On 30 March 2001, a Solmst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in <br /> eleven wells relative to the tops of the well casings The ground water elevations and gradient were <br /> determined from these data (Table 1) <br /> After recording water level measurements, a two-stage submersible pump was used to purge <br /> morutonng well MW6 of standing water A disposable plastic bailer was used to purge the remaining <br /> wells of standing water Approximately 6 to 7 gallons of water (a minimum of 3 casing-water <br /> volumes) were removed from wells MW 1,MW2, MW3, MW4, MW-7, MW9, MW 10 and MW 11 <br /> Monitoring well MW6 was purged of approximately 14 gallons of water and approximately 4 gallons <br /> and 2 gallons of water were removed from wells MW5 and MW8, respectively before they were <br /> pumped dry Ground water temperature, pH and conductivity were measured at regular intervals <br /> during purging using an Oakton and an ICM water analyzer Field sheets and data are included in <br /> Appendix C Purged water was stored on-site in labeled, 55-gallon DOT-approved drums <br /> 2 7 COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES <br /> Water samples were collected from each purged well using new disposable plastic bailers Each <br /> water sample was transferred into three 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid <br /> as a sample preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled <br /> container and transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical Inc (MAI) The <br /> samples were analyzed for <br /> • TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015 Modified, <br /> • BTEX with MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020, and <br /> • Oxygenated compounds - D1PE, ETBE, MTBE, TAME and TBA in accordance with EPA <br /> Method 8260-Modified, respectively <br />
