i 26 September 2000
AGE-NC Project No 96-0263
32 CPT DRLLLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to drill five CPT soil borings at the site as part of site assessment activities Proposed
CPT soil boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2
Based on petroleum hydrocarbon and MTBE-impact encountered during the ongoing investigation,
AGE proposes CPT soil borings in the following locations
• Between 3 and 5 feet southwest of ground water monitoring well MW-6 to characterize
lithology, potential contaminant migration pathways and to assess the vertical extent of
petroleum hydrocarbon and MTBE-impactcd soil,
• Between 45 and 55 feet west-southwest of ground water monitoring well MW-6 to
characterize lithology, potential contaminant migration pathways and to assess the vertical
extent of petroleum hydrocarbon and MTBE-impacted soil cross-gradient of the UST area,
• Between 25 and 35 feet east of ground water monitoring well MW-6 to characterize lithology
and potential contaminant migration pathways,
• Between 100 and 110 feet northwest of ground water monitoring well MW-6 to characterize
lithology and potential contaminant migration pathways, and
• Between 50 and 60 feet southeast of ground water monitoring well MW-6 to characterize
lithology and potential contaminant migration pathways
The five CPT borings shall be advanced to approximately 60 feet bsg utilizing a 25-ton truck-
mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods, however, total depths of
borings may vary according to hydrogeologic conditions encountered during drilling activities
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at 20 feet bsg and ending at 35 feet
bsg Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified,
• Volatile aromatic compounds(benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene and total xylenes BTEX)and
methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020 and
• Oxygenating fuel additives tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), MTBE,
ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethylene dibromide
(EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) by EPA Method 8260B
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc
