placed oil this river and jeopardize any future water policy by
the Countv. The health of this river and its fisheries has
direct ramificatioIis on any new water projects ' Middle Bar
Reservoir ) that might be considered by the County . EBMUD, S. J .
County , North County water districts anal the city of Stockton
have recently agreed on a "Conjunctive Use" program to pursue new
surface water resources on the Mokelumne . If critically limited
fish stocks are depleted by adverse affct.s from this quarry
project , it would jeopardize and limit any water projects
proposed by the County. The best interest of the County would be
to reconsider this project and incorporate :stringent
environmental safequards to insure the health, of the river .
in conclusion , I appe-al to you to consider the above paints , 1
have raised , that cloud the approval of this Claude C. Wood
Company Quarry Project . The environmental consequences are too
dynamic to ignore or mitigate as proposed . No overriding
consideration of this project has been demonstrated that lesson--
the
essonsthe significance of possible habitat consequences . 1 urge you to
rescind and reconsider the approval of the permit that was
granted to CCW on September G , 1990 .
Thank you for your time aI]d c_)nsideration .
Sincerely,
G
John D. Newbold
-13-
